Each summer Salford organizes a free week of Peace Camp for children from our church and local community. We meet Sunday through Thursday evenings.
Children who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate.
At Peace Camp children practice peace with ourselves, peace with the earth, and peace with others.
Christ’s affirmation in the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers” is the central theme for our week together.
The week's objectives include:
1. To answer Jesus’ call to peacemaking and make peacemaking a way of life.
2. To develop skills for peacemaking including emotional intelligence, self-regulation, conflict resolution, cooperation, and creativity.
3. To make connections between Bible stories and current realities.
4. To celebrate individual and cultural differences of people of all races, ethnicity, and genders as members of God’s beloved family.
5. To strengthen connection and care for God’s creation.
Our key verse: "You have heard people say, ‘Love your neighbors and hate your enemies.’ But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you.” - Mat. 5:43-44
We conclude our time together with a program for families on Thursday evening, where children share favorite experiences and what they have learned through the week.
