Salford Mennonite Child Care Centers
Salford Mennonite Child Care Centers is a ministry of Salford Mennonite Church operating at two locations. The church center, established in 1984, is located at the church in Harleysville. A second center was added in 1999, at the Dock Woods Community in Towamencin Township, where intentional intergenerational experiences are incorporated into the program. At both locations a “home away from home” is provided for children of working parents living in the surrounding communities. Teaching teams design developmentally appropriate curriculum, incorporating physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual developmental criteria. Children learn through age-appropriate, quality play experiences. Classroom sounds are happy laughter, busy activity, and pleasant conversations.
SMCCC consider ourselves to be partners with parents in the nurture and development of their children. Communication between the center and families is an integral part of the relationship that provides for high quality child care.
The governing board of SMCCC consists of a Ministry Team of seven members of the congregation who serve three-year renewable terms. A parent of a currently enrolled child or a parent of a graduate of SMCCC is included on the Ministry Team. The team is chosen through the Gifts Discernment process of the congregation to provide the skills necessary for the effective operation of the child care centers.
